1v1 Exit Efficiency – Week 2

DRILL 1: Timed Exit Window (3-Second Rule)
Objective: Force decisive execution: approach, execute a move, and exit within 3 seconds.

Setup:

  • 1 defender cone
  • Exit line 6–8 yards beyond defender
  • Use timer or verbal count

Execution:

  • Start 6–8 yards from defender.
  • On “GO,” approach, perform one move, and exit past the line within 3 seconds.
  • Rep only counts if exit line is crossed before 3 seconds.
  • 10 reps each side.

Coaching Points:

  • Short approach touches
  • One committed move only
  • Exit touch diagonal and forward
  • Explosive first two steps

Common Errors:

  • Too many setup touches
  • Hesitation before move
  • Exit touch sideways
  • Slow acceleration
  • Looking down too long

DRILL 2: Random Direction Exit
Objective: Train reaction speed and clean exit angle under uncertainty.

Setup:

  • 1 defender cone
  • Two exit gates (left/right)
  • Use random cue system (draw card, phone app, or partner call)

Execution:

  1. Approach defender cone.
  2. Cue revealed late (1 step before move).
  3. Execute one move and exit through called gate.
  4. 20 total reps.

Coaching Points:

  • Head up before contact
  • Instant commitment once cue known
  • Diagonal forward exit
  • Accelerate through gate

Common Errors:

  • Cue revealed too early
  • Changing direction mid-rep
  • Touch not aligned with cue
  • No acceleration after exit
  • Poor balance on change of direction

DRILL 3: Tight-Space Exit (2-Yard Box)
Objective: Improve escape efficiency when space is limited.

Setup:

  • 1 defender cone
  • 4 cones forming 2-yard square around defender
  • Exit line 6 yards beyond square

Execution:

  1. Dribble into the square.
  2. Execute move inside box.
  3. Exit touch must leave square immediately.
  4. Accelerate past exit line.
  5. 12 reps each side.

Coaching Points:

  • Compact touches inside box
  • Ball within stride distance
  • Exit touch is biggest touch
  • Low posture during acceleration

Common Errors:

  • Over-touching inside box
  • Move too late at cone
  • Exit touch too small
  • Upright posture
  • No burst after escape

DRILL 4: Exit → Protect → Re-Accelerate to Target
Objective: Train exit followed by protection touch and re-acceleration toward new target.

Setup:

  • 1 defender cone
  • Exit line 6–8 yards beyond defender
  • 1 diagonal target cone 5–7 yards beyond exit line

Execution:

  1. Approach defender cone.
  2. Execute move and exit past exit line.
  3. After 2–3 steps, take protecting touch at slight angle.
  4. Immediately accelerate toward diagonal target cone.
  5. Sprint through target cone.
  6. 10 reps each side.

Coaching Points:

  • First exit creates separation
  • Protecting touch changes body angle
  • Protecting touch maintains speed
  • Immediate second acceleration
  • Head up toward final target

Common Errors:

  • Slowing down after exit
  • Protecting touch too big
  • Protecting touch too small
  • No second acceleration
  • Running straight without angle change
