DRILL 1: One-Touch Directional Escape
Objective: Force separation with only one touch before acceleration.
Setup:
- Wall or rebounder
- Two cones 3 yards apart, 5 yards ahead
- Start 8 yards from wall
Execution:
- Pass firmly into wall.
- Choose a side before contact.
- First touch must break cone line immediately.
- Accelerate past outside of cone.
- Alternate sides.
- 12 reps each side.
Coaching Points:
- Decision before contact
- Sharp ankle lock
- Ball moves forward, not sideways
- Explosive first steps
Common Errors:
- Touch too central
- Delayed decision
- Heavy touch
- Upright posture
- No change of pace
DRILL 2: Random Call Separation
Objective: Train reaction and first-touch separation under cognitive load.
Setup:
- Wall or rebounder
- Two cones left and right
- Use random verbal cue before contact
Execution:
- Pass into wall.
- Call direction (left/right).
- First touch matches call.
- Explode 5 yards after separation.
- 20 total reps.
Coaching Points:
- Head up before contact
- Quick reaction
- Touch into space
- Controlled but explosive acceleration
Common Errors:
- Late cue
- Watching ball entire time
- Touch not aligned with cue
- Slow first step
- Poor balance
DRILL 3: Tight Space Half-Turn Escape
Objective: Improve separation when space is limited.
Setup:
- Wall or rebounder
- Two cones 2 yards apart
- Stand 6–7 yards from wall
Execution:
- Start half-open body shape.
- Pass into wall.
- Receive on back foot.
- First touch escapes through narrow gate.
- Accelerate immediately.
- 15 reps alternating sides.
Coaching Points:
- Compact touch
- Hips open before contact
- Ball within stride distance
- Immediate burst
Common Errors:
- Over-touching
- Touch too wide
- Closed body shape
- Slow hip rotation
- No acceleration
DRILL 4: Two-Touch Reactive Burst
Objective: Combine controlled first touch with explosive second touch under tempo.
Setup:
- Wall or rebounder
- Two cones 4 yards apart
- Start 8 yards from wall
Execution:
- Pass firmly into wall.
- First touch moves outside cone line.
- Second touch doubles separation distance.
- Sprint 5 yards.
- 12 reps each side.
Coaching Points:
- First touch creates angle
- Second touch increases speed
- Maintain balance
- Stay low in posture
Common Errors:
- First touch too soft
- Second touch underpowered
- Touches too close together
- Upright body during burst
- Inconsistent tempo
