Passing Mechanics Reset – Week 2

Passing Under Movement & Pressure

Drill 1 – Receive Across → Pass Opposite
Objective: Train receiving angle adjustment before passing to the opposite side.

Setup:

  • Wall
  • Two target zones marked left & right
  • 8–10 yards distance

Execution:

  1. Pass ball to wall
  2. Receive slightly across body
  3. Open hips
  4. Pass to opposite-side target zone
  5. Alternate directions every rep
  6. 20 reps × 3 sets

Coaching Points:

  • First touch sets body angle
  • Hips open before strike
  • Pass cleanly across body line
  • Stay balanced during transition

Common Errors:

  • Receiving square
  • Passing to same side instead of opposite
  • Touch under body
  • Leaning back on strike

Drill 2 – Moving Lateral Pass
Objective: Strike while moving laterally instead of from a static position.

Setup:

  • Wall
  • 2 cones spaced 4 yards apart (side shuffle lane)

Execution:

  1. Start at left cone
  2. Shuffle laterally to right cone
  3. As ball returns, strike while still moving
  4. Continue lateral motion
  5. Repeat opposite direction
  6. 15 reps each direction × 3 sets

Coaching Points:

  • Stay balanced while moving
  • Short adjustment steps before plant
  • Do not stop completely before striking
  • Strike through ball cleanly

Common Errors:

  • Stopping before pass
  • Off-balance plant foot
  • Weak contact due to movement
  • Crossing feet during shuffle

Drill 3 – First-Time Directional Pass (Reaction)
Objective: Execute first-time pass based on directional cue.

Setup:

  • Wall
  • 2 target zones
  • Optional random left/right cue

Execution:

  1. Pass ball to wall
  2. React to directional call as ball returns
  3. First-time pass to corresponding target
  4. Reset rhythm
  5. 15 reps per direction × 3 sets

Coaching Points:

  • Quick plant foot adjustment
  • Strike clean first-time
  • Minimal hesitation
  • Body slightly forward

Common Errors:

  • Delayed reaction
  • Flat-footed plant
  • Weak contact
  • Leaning back under speed

Drill 4 – Pass After Dribble Load
Objective: Maintain passing mechanics after technical movement.

Setup:

  • 3 cones in line (dribble lane)
  • Wall 8–10 yards ahead

Execution:

  1. Dribble through cones at moderate speed
  2. Exit last cone
  3. Immediately pass to wall
  4. Control rebound
  5. Reset and repeat
  6. 20 reps × 3 sets

Coaching Points:

  • Set body before strike
  • Do not rush final touch
  • Clean contact despite fatigue
  • Controlled follow-through

Common Errors:

  • Heavy final dribble touch
  • Striking off-balance
  • Leaning backward
  • Rushing pass without setup
